Mommying from the Heart

Cradle Cap and Pink Eye Craze!!🥴🤦🏾‍♀️

Okay mommas! So why did it take me almost 30 years to get pink eye?! And how do I get it? Going to town on my son’s cradle cap! I didn’t realize that I needed goggles to take care his scalp. Here I was thought I was being careful not to touch my eyes while working on it, and apparently something must have flung in my eye. So I spent half a day at Urgent Care (terrible and crazy experience), and $62 on medication that eventually cleared it up in less than 7 days. All that to learn the following:

  1. Cradle Cap doesn’t go away over night. It takes months, so don’t stress yourself about clearing it out of your little one’s head. It WILL come RIGHT back!
  2. It can be anywhere where there is hair, like eye brows, hair-line in the front and the back in the nape of the neck. Coconut oil helps to soften the cradle cap to help you lift it off scalp.
  3. Use a baby comb or your nails to lift the cradle cap OR a baby brush that you can rub in circular motions.  Lay out a towel so that the cradle cap has something to fall on other than clothes, furniture, etc.
  4. I used Mustela Foam Shampoo for Newborns to clean Duce’s hair every time I bathe them (2-3 times a week). I do the coconut process first, then shampoo. This lifts the cradle cap out of his hair for at least 24 hours.
  5. Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize! Since I was the primary care giver of Duce (stay at home mommy), it was critical that I washed and sanitized every time I touched my eye, in order to be careful that my son didn’t get it.

Moral of the story: PROTECT YOUR EYES! After all you need them and don’t want your baby and you to be cooped up in the house because you’re contagious. Goggles anyone?
