Full of life, innoncence, brilliance, compassion, spontaneity, and laughter.
How can I explain to you that this very costume you wear with glee during pretend time, doesn’t reciprocate the same love in this big world you’re apart of?
How do I as your mommy allow you to continue to carelessly dance in your imagination knowing that this uniform doesn’t mean safety, pride, protection, and honor to the black and brown people of this world that look like you?
How do I explain to you that your life may very well be in danger when someone in this uniform addresses you?
I can’t. I won’t. Not because I’m in denial of the heart wrenching truth plaguing our black community daily.
But because you deserve a life FREE of worry, fear, hesitation, and heartbreak…if not just for a little while longer.
So Mommy and Daddy will protect you, we will love you, we will educate you, we will be praying for you, we will be crying for you, we will be cautious for you…

New to the adventurous, challenging, yet fulfilling world of motherhood, I'm an educator turned stay-at-home mommy. I've spent the last 10 years of my life working with other people's kids and I wish to think that at least some of that has to help this new momma with motherhood! Boy am I wrong!
